Consultancy services

Our Consultancy Services practice focuses on developing our clients’ organisations such that they are capable of sustaining the benefits of our work long after our consultants have completed their engagement.

Our Consultancy Services practice routinely augments its teams with members of our Development, Delivery & Operational Excellence practice to ensure our work best supports our clients’ team in the field. The services we provide are summarised below.

We assess the organisational capabilities and maturities of our clients’ project delivery, contracting and operations functions. Our holistic approach ensures all aspects of an organisation are assessed; the deliverables of these assessments can then be used to underpin and prioritise organisational development programmes which are tailored to elevate performance in targeted areas.

We provide independent, objective due diligence on development and operations capabilities and portfolios of licensee, owner and contractor organisations to inform investment decision-making.

We work with teams to identify the areas of their work that, if performed well, will determine outstanding performance, and to develop a suite of corresponding actions, development needs, behaviours and measures that need to be taken in order to optimise performance in each of these areas.

We deploy teams to develop and drive change programmes through organisations. We work with our clients to refine their objectives, define the change delta, and to engage their personnel in change programmes designed to transition working practices and organisational constructs smoothly.

We work with our clients to develop and deploy governance and assurance frameworks that enshrine the organisational culture and aspirations for management oversight, and reflect the in-house capability to provide support and guidance to its teams.

We develop suites of documentation that define working practices and support teams discharge their duties effectively and efficiently. Documents are developed such that they align across their target function, with any overarching management frameworks, and with peer functional working practices; potential ‘gaps’ in organisational efficiencies are flagged during development and are addressed with functional teams.

We develop competency frameworks that assist organisations understand the strengths and weaknesses in the competence of their workforce, and to prepare competency development programmes to address gaps; we help individuals determine their ability to perform various roles, and to define development programmes that underpin their career progression.

We assist organisations and teams determine the structures necessary to optimise their effectiveness in achieving their objectives.

We develop training programmes ranging from ‘101’ style introductions to project management, through to executive development for ‘leaders of the future’.
We provide facilitation for a variety of management and technical events including engineering reviews, RAM reviews, risk management workshops, assurance reviews, and other events requiring consensus on decision making.

Development, delivery & operational excellence

Our Development, Delivery & Operational Excellence practice focuses on ensuring that the right projects are selected, that they are delivered successfully and that they are operated optimally. A key area of our work is in the development and implementation of strategies for recovering projects when they start to show negative performance trends. We work either as an external service provider to provide independent, objective advice, or embedded as part of our clients own team.

The services we provide are summarised below.

We undertake independent reviews of operating assets, project portfolios and individual projects where our client wishes to obtain an independent, objective view of the current performance and to identify the steps necessary to recover the outturn.

We assist clients review front-end concepts or can inject expertise to take-over and fast-track the front-end of projects to identify the optimal development solution.

We provide dedicated teams to deliver projects on our clients’ behalf. We deploy teams to take over or to augment our client’s own team to recover projects where there is concern that these will no longer meet their sanctioned budget, schedule or economic outturn.

We provide expertise to develop project plans, to provide external verification of the accuracy and deliverability of existing plans and team to monitor and control project delivery through to completion.

We facilitate the development of contracting, procurement and logistics management strategies. We lead the evaluation, negotiation and selection of contractors, and undertake hands-on contract management.

We help clients to drive projects through completion and into operations. We help project team focus on closing out the issues that really matter – those that will enable the plant to commence safe, efficient operation.

We help clients develop the appropriate operating and maintenance philosophies during the development phase of their lifecycle. We provide independent review as to the effectiveness of existing O&M regimes. We advise clients on improving the performance of their O&M functions.

We assist our clients with their exploration, appraisal and development drilling programmes, usually as part of a wider asset or project review assignment.

We help clients prepare claims defence strategies; we provide expertise to execute these strategies and, where appropriate, to negotiate settlements. We also provide mediation services to assist in disputes resolution.

Our Development, Delivery & Operational Excellence practice routinely augments its teams with members of our Consultancy Services practice to ensure its work is embedded within our clients organisation sustainably.
